North Bethesda

North Bethesda is a collection of many neighborhoods, bordering Bethesda and Rockville.

Both a commercial and a residential area, North Bethesda is home to White Flint shopping mall and a number of smaller shopping areas. White Flint is an 800,000 square foot, 3-level regional mall with department stores, bookstores, entertainment centers, restaurants and a theater. Currently, plans are being developed to create a pedestrian-friendly town center near White Flint Mall.

North Bethesda is also home to Montgomery County’s most significant arts and conference centers. Strathmore is a scenic 11-acre site in North Bethesda, with multi-disciplinary arts programming at the historic Mansion at Strathmore and world-class performances by national and international artists and orchestras in the Music Center at Strathmore. The Bethesda North Conference Center is a 100,000 square foot facility with ballroom, meeting rooms and amphitheater, coupled with a full service Marriott hotel.

North Bethesda is served by both the White Flint Metro and the Grosvenor/Strathmore Metro, on the Red Line of the MetroRail System.

Washingtonian Magazine notes that "families with school-age children have flocked to Rockville's 20852 Zip code, just north or Bethesda...the area's impressive schools -- Richard Montgomery's International Baccalaureate program draws students from across the county -- and quiet, residential streets close to shopping on Rockville Pike make it an easy place to live."

Recreation

North Bethesda is served by many recreational facilities, parks and open spaces. The Montgomery County Aquatic Center features a large indoor pool, hydrotherapy pools, diving platforms, a water slide, an exercise room, and other facilities.

The North Bethesda Trail, recently completed, is a runs roughly parallel to Rockville Pike along a old trolley line. The trail links several existing trails into a 4 mile commuter route with access to the Capital Crescent Trail, which runs from Silver Spring, Maryland, through downtown Bethesda, Maryland, to Georgetown, in Washington, DC.

Tilden Woods Park, on Tilden Lane in North Bethesda, is a 7-acre park with a playground, multi-use field, two lighted tennis courts, picnic area and recreation building available for rent.
